  6. There is another way. What is happening is that when you use Alt-P to change   
  7. your bit rate (not baud, by the way), the PC is dropping DTR. The Hayes modem  
  8. discontinues carrier. The other end also kills carrier. Your modem then times  
  9. out and disconnects the line (assuming the other end doesn't). To fix the      
  10. problem, before connecting issue the command ATS10=20. This will tell the modem
  11. to wait two seconds (20 1/10 second intervals) after losing carrier before     
  12. hanging up the phone. Many RBBS systems already set this up, too. Try it!.     
  13. The *HOOKER* is that *BOTH* sides must be setup this way. (Most BBS are.)
